Scouting For Food fills several important needs. While its primary goal is to help feed the hungry, it allows our Cub Scouts to play a critical role in community service. It also provides a clear, local, community-based target for those generous families who can donate in these difficult times.
Cub Scout Pack 50 has been involved with Scouting For Food since it became a national Scouting initiative in 1988. We partner with the Marin Food Bank in this special drive to meet local holiday food needs.
The mission of Marin Food Bank is to provide quality food, the most basic of all human necessities, to people in Marin County who need nutritional assistance. The San Francisco and Marin Food Banks supply food to 450+ local non-profit organizations that serve thousands of families, seniors, children and individuals.
Scouting for Food averages 41,000 pounds of food donations each year. Since we started this effort, Scouting for Food has collected 1,000,000 lbs of food in Marin County.
San Anselmo Scouts collected almost 1,800 pounds of food last year and hope to exceed that this year.
